I have been absent for a while.
What? You didn’t notice?
I’ll pretend you did.
I’ve been absent because I’ve been on vacation. Not anything like the BIG, long Titanic Memorial Cruise vacation, but a vacation, nevertheless. I could have posted to the blog, but every time I started to do it, I just couldn’t wrap my mind around it. So I shrugged, and went on my way.
That way probably included an amusement or animal park. I have never been to so many amusement parks in so short a time. We’ve done the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, Legoland, Sea World, and the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum.
Can you guess there were small children involved?
We went on rides, looked for animals (who were sensibly hiding from the heat), ate LOTS of ice cream, built tall Lego towers, blew huge bubbles, listened to a jazz band in the park, and walked for miles.
In the process, we bonded with distant grandchildren, who so quickly forget who we are, when they only see us once a year or so. It’s interesting to see, that as they get older, they can hold us in memory longer. At 6, Makila knew us without hesitation, with her own memories of past visits. At 3 and 2, Alan and Van had to learn again that we are Special People who like them a lot. Both boys caught on quickly, and had no problem spending time with us. Even without their parents there.
The vacation is coming to an end, and we’ll be home tomorrow. I will try to renew the habit of somewhat-regular blog posts.
In case you think it was all play and no work, let me disabuse of you that idea. I had books to get off to editors, which meant I had . . . well, editing to do. It’s sort of like cleaning your house before the housekeeper comes. You want her to concentrate on the hard stuff, so you have to make sure the easy stuff is cleaned up before she gets there.
That’s what I’ve been doing. Only time will tell how successful I was. Or not. And during the time these books are in other hands, I need to start on a marketing plan for launching them. The deadline is rapidly approaching.
And I’ve got another vacation coming up in two weeks.
Sounds like a lovely time…
Sounds like good times! I wonder if the strawberry patches are in bloom and if you might be able to get out to get some fresh picked strawberries.
Been real busy doing revisions that I’ve been sucking wind in the social media area. I really have to do better lol!!!
Anywho, make sure to enjoy the mess out of the grandchildren 🙂
Glad you had a good time, but I actually did miss and wonder what happened to you!
LEGO land is a great place for the younger kids- we took the group home kids there in June and they loved it- the teens were a bit board after a while, but for the little ones it’s a perfect amusement park.
