On Saturday, my crit group was treated to a visit by award-winning SF writer, Nancy Fulda. Nancy was back in the Bay Area to visit her family, and she graciously let herself be stolen for lunch. As writers do, we dashed through topic after topic about our books, writing tips, our books, publishing, our books, our goals, critique groups, our books, critics, promotion…
We had a blast.
Nancy wins awards like the rest of us breathe. From a Writers of the Future Finalist to the Phobos Award and winner of the Baen Memorial Contest, she’s nominated this year for a Hugo and Nebula, for her short story, Movement. This isn’t her first Nebula nomination, either.
Since I prefer novels to short stories – although I loved Movement – I’m thrilled to say she’s working on her first novel. You can bet that one will be on my shelf.
Nancy has been published in Asimov’s, Clarkesworld, and many other places, but she now has all of her shorts, novelettes, and novellas available as paperbacks and several ebook formats. You can read Movement online here. I promise you will be impressed.
That is awesome. I noticed that you had a chance to discuss various topics, including your books. 🙂
Aw, thanks so much for the glowing praise! Lunch was fabulous, and I’m very pleased to have been in such excellent company.
I feel compelled to point out that “Movement” actually is my first Nebula nomination. “Backlash” and “In the Halls of the Sky-Palace” were both recommended for a Nebula by fellow SFWA members, but neither of them made it onto the final ballot. 🙂
