Bidness

I now have a piece of paper stating that Shipbuilder is officially registered with the U.S. Copyright Office.

Awesome.

Authors must do this all the time, but this is my first, and it’s special.

  1. Congratulations! But is that actually necessary? I have always understood that copyright registration is a purely optional step, and that the copyright automatically is owned by you by virtue of being written by you.

    1. Yes, the author owns the copyright without the registration. Registering the copyright does give the author specific legal recourse they might not otherwise have, but it’s rarely a big deal. Still, I think most published authors do it, and I think most publishers require it. It’s easy to do, and only $35.
